Jeffers' Career Night Leads No. 24 Men's Track and Field to First Place at Mid-January Meet

BEREA, Ohio -- Sophomore Brady Jeffers (South Amherst/Firelands) won two events inb career-best times to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field teams to a first place finish at the home opening Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

The seven-team meet consisted of four NCAA Division III schools, three NCAA Division II schools and one junior college.

The 24th nationally ranked Yellow Jackets were first of seven teams with 226 points.  

Jeffers won the 1-mile run and 1000-meter in career-best times of 4:33.49 and 2:41.72, respectively. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/Riverside)  also won two events as he won both throwing events for the second straight week.  Burdorff won the weight throw with a mark of 56 feet and 11.25 inches and the shot put with a mark of 49'5". 

In addition, senior distance runner Greg Blevins (Mentor) had a pair of runner-up finishes as he placed second in the 3,000-meter in career-best time of 8:57.20 and second in the 1,000-meter in a career-best time of 2:48.67. Sophomore Zak Dyset (McDonald, Pa. /Fort Cherry) was the runner-up in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 53'3". Senior twin brother sprinters Ben Beidleman (Washington D.C./St. Anselm's Abbey)  and Michael Beidleman (Washington D.C./Col. Zadok A. McGruder) and freshman sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland /John Adams) went one, two and three in the 55-meter in times of 6.49, 6.53, and 6.60 respectively. Junior jumper Johnathon Spilker (Solon) was the runner-up in pole vault with a season-best vault of 14'5.25". Sophomore thrower Cody Smith (Port Clinton) was second in the shot put with a career-best mark of 48'7.5". Freshman Holden Daly (Vermilion) was second in the 500-meter in a career-best time of 1:22.92. Sophomore distance runner Brian Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) was third in the 3,000-meter in career-best time of 8:58.29.  Sophomore sprinter Vee Sealey (Painesville /Harvey) was third in the 400-meter in a career-best time of 53.58.  Sophomore distance runner Evan Milovich (Westlake) finished third in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:10.24. Sophomore distance runner Justin Swords (Brunswick) was third in the 1,000-meter in a career-best time of 2:51.13.

In relay action, the 4x200-meter team of Leverette, Ben Beidleman, sophomore sprinter Trypp Washington (Orlando, Fla. / First Academy) and Michael Beidleman won in a season-best time of 1:30.93. The 4x400-meter relay team of Sealey, Ben Beidleman, Leverette and Michael Beidleman won in a time of 3:27.75.

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 6 when it travels Granville to compete in the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University in the Mitchell Fieldhouse at 12 p.m. 

In addition on Saturday, February 6 and Sunday, February 7, the Yellow Jacket multi-event athletes will be competing in the All-Ohio Division III Combined Events Championships also hosted by Denison in the Mitchell Fieldhouse.
