Men Run at ONU Polar Bear Last Chance Meet

ADA, Ohio – A quartet of Baldwin Wallace University senior standouts led a contigent of twenty-six Yellow Jacket men's indoor track and field student-athletes who competed at the annual and unscored Ohio Northern University Polar Bear "Last Chance" Meet in the ONU Sports Center. The meet is designed for student-athletes who hope to either qualify or better their qualifying marks for next weekend's 2016 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by two-time CAPITAL ONE Academic All-American and Div. III national-qualifying sprinter Ben Beidleman (Washington D.C./ St. Anselm's Abbey) and senior throwing national qualifier Tyler Burdorff (Painesville/ Riverside).

Beidleman won the 60-meter dash in 7.03 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.26 seconds. His time in the 200 was .03 shy of his current national qualifying time of 22.23 seconds (tied for 16th). Burdorff won the men's weight throw with a toss of 59'5" and was first in the shot put with 52'9.5". His weight throw was three-quarter inches off of his career-best of 59'5.75", which ranks eighth-best in Div. III entering today's competition. His shot put was a career-best and ranks him 19th in Div. III and one-half inch shy of the national qualifying Top-16.

In addition to the Yellow Jacket seniors, Sophomore men's vaulter/ jumper Johnathon Spilker (Solon) was third in the pole vault with a career-best height of 15'5.5" and fifth in the triple jump with a career-best leap of 41'0.5". Sophomore shot putter Cody Smith (Port Clinton) was third with a career-best throw of 51'975".

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when they travel to Grinnell, Iowa for the NCAA Indoor Track Championships next friday, March 11th.
