NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team netted a 6-3 non-conference victory over Westminster (Pa.) College at the North Ridge Tennis and Golf Club.
In its final tune-up before its spring break trip, BW (3-0) won four of six singles matches and two of doubles matches to win its third straight match of the spring.
In singles action, junior Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Mendon) started things off winning his fourth singles match by identical scores of 6-0. Freshman Grant Smith (Dayton/Centerville), who is this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week, picked up the second point as he won at second singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Freshman Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) recorded the third point as he won at third singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-1. Senior All-OAC player Jake Elbin (Findlay) secured the final singles point and he won a highly contested match at first singles by scores of 6-3, 7-6 and 7-4 in the tiebreaker.
In doubles play, the tandem of Benotti and Smith sealed the fifth point and victory at second doubles with an 8-2 win. The number one team of Elbin and Kernan brought home the sixth and final point with an 8-2 victory.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, March 8 when they open up their annual spring break trip in Hilton Head , South Carolina with a pair of non-conference matches against Gettysburg (Pa.) College and Norwich (V.T.) University at the Hilton Head Resort.
