Men's Tennis Closes Out Fall Schedule at ITA's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team concluded its fall portion of the schedule at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships, hosted by Kalamazoo (Mich.) College.

Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference Jake Elbin (Findlay) wrapped his singles competition with an even 1-2 record. In his first match against Casey Johnson of Kalamazoo, Elbin fell 6-0 & 6-3. In the consolation round, the senior received a first-round bye, before squaring off with fellow Yellow Jacket, freshman Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.), and won won 6-3, 6-2. In the next match, Elbin fell to Adam Shinomiya of Allegheny (Pa.) College, 7-5 & 6-4.

Elbin and Kernan paired up in the doubles competition, defeating fifth-seeded, Jack Bulger and Tim Cianciola of Denison University, 8-7. The duo battled back after trailing in the match, 7-4, then took control in the tie-breaker.

Kernan finished the ITA's with an 0-2 singles record. In the open singles, the freshman received a first-round bye. In the following match, he fell to Marc-Lennart Harms of Earlham (Ind.) College 6-0, 6-2. In consolations, Kernan dropped his match with Elbin 6-3 & 6-2.

BW will hit the courts next year on Friday February 14 against Penn. St.-Behrend at the North Ridge Tennis Club at 6 pm.
