Men's Tennis Competes in Oberlin Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2019-20 season at the Oberlin Invitational, hosted by Oberlin College, on the Hunsinger Courts.

Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference Jake Elbin (Findlay) went 2-1 in singles play. His first victory came against Mark Beebe of John Carroll University, with consecutive 6-3 scores. His second triumph came against Dylan Goodman of Tiffin University with back-to-back 6-0 tilts.

 Junior Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) earned a 1-1 record in singles. His victory came against Andrew Cochran of Ohio Northern University in the tie-breaker set. Benotti secured the first set 6-4, and fell in the second set 1-6, before winning the tie-breaker 10-5.

Freshman Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) went undefeated in singles play with a 3-0 record. His first win was a 6-1, 6-2 final over Ed Doyle of Grove City College. The second victory was against Alvero Rosabel of John Carroll, which extended to three sets. Kernan won the first set 6-4, before falling in the second 3-6. He sealed the third set by a score of 10-8. The freshmans third singles victory was over Raj Kumar of John Carroll, 6-3 & 6-4.

Elbin and Kernan paired in doubles action. The duo went 1-2, with the victory coming against Andrew Cochran and Matt Garcia of Ohio Northern, 8-4.

The Yellow Jackets take a week off before heading to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, hosted by Kalamazoo (Mich.) College.
