HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In the final match of the spring break trip, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team beat Cornell (Iowa) College, 6-3 at the Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center.
BW (6-2) secured No. 2 doubles behind the tandem of freshman Grant Smith (Dayton/Centerville) and junior Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) with an 8-4 score.
Senior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Jake Elbin (Findlay) took No. 1 singles in three sets. The senior took set one 7-6 before falling in set two, 6-2. Elbin won set three with a 10-5 score. Freshman Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) seized No. 3 singles with a 6-4 6-3 line and Benotti grabbed No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 final. Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne) won No. 5 singles after a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Sophomore Edwin Schartman (Westlake) wrapped up No. 6 singles with a 6-3 6-0 score line.
BW is back in action Wednesday, March, 18 for a non-conference contest against Defiance College at 3:30 p.m.
