Men's Tennis Aims for OAC Title

BEREA, Ohio – With a mix of upper and lower classmen, head coach Brian Rector '89 will look to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team to an Ohio Athletic Conference title in 2019-20. 

BW concluded last year with a 15-6 overall record and an OAC mark of 3-4. Rector returns one senior, one junior, two sophomores, and four freshmen to the lineup this season.

Senior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Jake Elbin (Findlay) will anchor the lineup with his experience, after a season where he went 14-5 at No. 3 singles and 12-7 at No. 2 doubles. Senior Jonathan Brunnet (Berea/Berea/Midpark) will look to add leadership to the team.

Junior Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) returns after a 14-6 singles record last season, which included a 12-6 mark at No. 4 singles. The junior went 7-7 in doubles.

The duo in the sophomore class includes Edwin Schartman (Westlake) and Logan Snow (Creston/Norwayne). Schartman posted a 2-2 record at singles and a 7-6 record at No. 3 doubles. Snow will look to assert himself into the lineup this campaign.

Freshmen Grant Smith (Dayton/Centerville), Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne), Mateo Gonzalez (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville High School South), and Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.) will bring competition and skill to the squad.

The Yellow Jackets will open the season with at the Oberlin Invitational on September 21 and 22. Then BW will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on October 4-6 to conclude the fall portion of the schedule. The Yellow Jackets will welcome Penn St. (Pa.) Behrend on February 14 to Pop Collins Tennis Courts to start the spring schedule. From April 8-12, BW will travel to South Carolina for its annual spring trip and will open OAC play with a two-game road trip, starting with Capital University on March 21 and Marietta College on March 28.
