Men's Basketball Falls to No. 9 Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – In the final road game of the regular season, the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference contest to the No. 9 Nationally-ranked University of Mount Union, inside the McPherson Academic & Athletic Complex.

BW (13-11 overall, 9-8 OAC) was led by junior guard Luke Schaefer (Medina), as he scored 18 points, grabbed two rebounds and dished out two assists. Senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) poured in 15 and distributed two assists. Freshman guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) dropped 14, corralled three boards and three assists. Senior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) led the game with 13 rebounds.

Mount Union (21-3 overall, 16-1 OAC) was led by senior guard Nathan Bower-Malone, as he recorded a game-high 22. Senior guard D'Vontay Friga tallied 16 while sophomore guard Collen Gurley registered 15. Junior forward Logan Hill scored 11.

BW drops to 85-60 in the all-time series with Mount Union.

The two teams started the game by exchanging the lead eight times over the first five and a half minutes, before BW established a 21-15 advantage at 11:04 mark. Mount Union battled back to tie the game up at 23 with an 8-2 run, with 5:45 left in the first half. Schaefer drilled a trey on the next possession before the Purple Raiders answered with a three of their own, tying the contest up at 26 with 4:48 remaining in the first. The Yellow Jackets closed the half on a 10-6 spurt and headed into intermission with a 36-32 advantage.

Mount Union opened the second half with six unanswered points and took a 38-36 lead. The two squads traded the lead six times until the Purple Raiders took a 50-48 lead at the 14:58 mark. Mount Union extended that lead to 67-61 with a 17-11 run with just under six minutes left in regulation. BW retaliated with back-to-back threes to tie the game up at 67 apiece, which lead to a Purple Raider timeout at the 2:48 mark. Mont Union finished the game on a 16-6 run and walked away with the 83-73 victory.

The Yellow Jackets return home for a contest with Otterbein University on Saturday, February, 23 on Seniors' Night.
