Men's Basketball Falls to John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference contest to John Carroll University 101-82, inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center

BW (12-10 overall, 8-7 OAC) was led by senior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) as he recorded 17 points off 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. Freshman guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) registered 17 points off 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from long range. Junior guard Matt Dimitrijevs (Broadview Heights/Brecksville Broadview Heights) contributed 11 off the bench, while senior two-time Academic All-OAC guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) chipped in seven and dished out three assists.

John Carroll (15-7 overall, 8-7 OAC) was led by junior guard Jackson Sartain as he had a game-high tying 29 points. Senior guard Ryan Berger also dropped 29 and sophomore forward Emmett Chambers threw in 12.

BW drops to 64-60 in the all-time series with John Carroll and are now 3-7 on the road this season.

John Carroll jumped out to a 21-11 lead to open the game. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead to 21-17 with back-to-back threes, leading to a Blue Streak timeout at the 12:32 mark. John Carroll responded with a 20-10 spurt to take a 41-27 advantage with just under six minutes left in the first half. The Blue Streaks closed the half on an 18-13 run and headed into the locker room with a 59-40 lead.

After three minutes and twenty seconds, Sova broke the second half scoring drought with a layup to bring the score to 59-42. John Carroll went on a 5-2 run to establish a 64-44 advantage, before calling a full timeout at 15:46. BW cut the lead to 77-58 with a 14-13 run, before calling a full timeout with 8:20 left in the second half. Both teams registered 24 points each in the final minutes and John Carroll came away with the 101-82 home victory.

The Yellow Jackets travel to Bexley, Ohio to square off with Capital University on Friday, February 14 with tip at 7 p.m. BW wraps up the road schedule with a contest against No. 11 nationally-ranked University of Mount Union on Wednesday, February 19. The Yellow Jackets will welcome Otterbein University to Ursprung Gymnasium on Saturday, February, 22 for Seniors' Night.
