Quiring Named OAC Defensive Player of the Year, Three Men's Basketball Athletes Land on All-OAC Team

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Three Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball student-athletes have been selected to 2020 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Senior two-time Academic All-OAC point guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) was slated to the second-team and earned the Jim Burson Defensive Player of the Year award. Garnering honorable mention honors were senior forward Drew Sova (Chagrin Falls/ Kenston) and junior guard Luke Schaefer (Medina).

Quiring concluded his senior season averaging a career-high 10.8 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.1 rebounds-per-game. On February, 14 he surpassed 1,000 career points in a win against Capital University, becoming the 42nd player to join the BW 1,000 point club. On January 9, 2020 he also scored a career-high 30 points versus the University of Mount Union. In his career, Quiring has 1,029 points, 306 assists, 253 rebounds, 63 steals and 24 blocks.

Sova wrapped up his senior campaign with his ninth career double-double, his six this year, after a career-high 24 point-16 rebound performance in the OAC Tournament Quarterfinal. This year he is averaging a career-high in points(10.1), rebounds(8.8), steals(0.5), and blocks(0.4). For his career he has totaled 497 points, 553 rebounds, 57 assists, 26 steals, and 24 blocks.

Schaefer comes off his best scoring season as a Yellow Jacket as he averaged a career-high 11.3 ppg and shot a career-best 38.2 percent from three-point range. He is also averaging a career-high 3.3 rpg and 1.2 apg. He scored a career-high 31 points at Muskingum University on February, 1 and secured a career-high nine rebounds at Westminster (Pa.) College on November, 19, 2019. For his career he has 586 points, 189 rebounds, 73 assists, 66 steals, and 16 blocks.

BW concluded its 2019-20 season with an overall record of 14-12 and OAC mark of 10-8.
