Football Falls to #17 John Carroll in 35th Battle of the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy Game

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University football team closed out its three-game home stand as it fell to No. 17 nationally ranked and crosstown rival John Carroll University by a final score of 30-7 in an Ohio Athletic Conference and 35th Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy game on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (1-2, 1-1 OAC) dropped to 33-26-4 in the all-time series and 21-14 in the Gold Bowl Trophy series.  John Carroll (1-1, 1-0 OAC) has won the last 11 meetings against the Yellow Jackets.

Offensively for BW, senior quarterback Joey Marousek (North Royalton) completed 15-of-27 passes for 100 yards.  Junior running back Victor Ford, Jr. (Cleveland/Shaker Heights) rushed for 59 yards on nine carries with one touchdown.  Sophomore wide receiver Tim Conwell (Avon) caught six passes for 24 yards.  Defensively, senior All-OAC linebacker Mason Levasseur (Panama City, Fla./South Walton) recorded a game-high 12 tackles while sophomore defensive lineman Hasim Rashid (Shaker Heights) tallied a career-high 10 stops.

Offensively for the Blue Streak, senior All-OAC Joe Collins completed 23-of-33 passes for 302 yards with two touchdowns. Senior running back Matthew Buser rushed for 31 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns. Senior All-OAC wide out Brennan Fugh caught 11 passes for 110 yards with one touchdown.  Defensively, junior defensive back Chris Golson and senior linebacker Jaheim Peake each had seven tackles.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when they hit the road for the first time in 2023 on Saturday, September 23 as they travel to Ada for an OAC game against Ohio Northern University inside Dial-Roberson Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
