Fourth Quarter Comeback Lifts Football to Victory over Heidelberg on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio – For the second straight season, the Baldwin Wallace University football team used a fourth comeback to defeat Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference and Seniors' Day game by a final score of 24-21 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

Prior to the start of the game, the University and the football program honored and recognized 21 football senior student-athletes as well as their parents and guardians. 

BW (6-3, 5-3 OAC) improved to 52-24 in the all-time series with Heidelberg (5-4, 4-4 OAC).  The Yellow Jackets have won the last six contests.

Offensively for BW, freshman quarterback Charlie Bubonics (Solon) completed 6-of-13 passes for 74 yards with one touchdown.   Freshman running back George Linberger (Barberton/St. Vincent-St. Mary) rushed for 82 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns.   Senior All-OAC wide out Elijah Arnett (Akron/Woodridge) caught three passes for 30 yards. Defensively, sophomore defensive lineman Hasim Rashid (Shaker Heights) recorded a game-high tying nine tackles and 1.5 quarterback sacks.

Offensively for the Student Princes, freshman quarterback Lance Rickle completed 10-of-22 passes for 111 yards.   Senior All-OAC running back Montavious Yearby rushed for a game-high 171 yards on 16 carries with two touchdowns.   Senior wide receiver Oliver Kelleher caught five passes for 54 yards.  Defensively, senior defensive back Key Cunningham and junior defensive lineman Kane Mears each tallied a game-high tying nine tackles.

The Yellow Jackets close out the 2023 regular season when they travel to Alliance for an OAC game against No. 2 nationally ranked University of Mount Union in Kehres Stadium at 1:30 p.m.
