BW Volleyball Knocks Off Wilmington in Straight Sets

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team won its Ohio Athletic Conference match in straight sets against Wilmington College inside the Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets (15-10, 3-2 OAC), winners of three of their last five matches, swept the Quakers (2-22, 0-5 OAC), who have lost 17 straight matches, by scores of 25-20, 25-23 and 25-21.

Freshman outside hitter Lauryn Wright (Orrville) led the BW offensive attack with 11 kills and added four digs.  Junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) tallied nine kills and freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) recorded seven.   Junior middle hitter Kaitlin Burgess (Bentonville, Ark. /Silver Lake Regional, Mass.) had six kills and had two block assists.

Senior Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense with 25 and 11 assists, respectively.

Metz led the defense with a game and career-high 25 digs.  Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) tallied 24 and senior defensive specialist Paige Pileski (Elyria) contributed 12.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, October 21 when it travels to University Heights for an OAC match with cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7 p.m. The next home match is on Tuesday, October 28 when the Yellow Jackets host the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears for an OAC match in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
