BW Rally Falls Short Against Capital In Regular Season Finale

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team fell short in its rally against Capital University in the regular season Ohio Athletic Conference finale for both squads in the Ursprung Gymnasium on Seniors' and Parents' Day.
 
The Yellow Jackets (15-14, 3-6 OAC), who will enter next week's OAC Tournament as the seven seed, lost a five-set match to the Crusaders (11-19, 3-6 OAC), who will be the six seed, by scores of 18-25, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 7-15.
 
Mount Union won the regular season title and will be the top seed in the tournament.  Otterbein and John Carroll will serve as the second and third seeds.  Heidelberg and Ohio Northern will be the four and five seeds depending on the outcome of their matches later today.
 
Junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) led the BW offensive attack as she had a season-high tying and a match-high 14 kills.   Senior middle hitter Markema Winters (Akron/Firestone) tallied 12 kills.
 
Senior Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense with 23 and 18 assists, respectively.  Primeau also added a match and career-high six service aces and eight digs.
 
Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the defense with a match-high tying 28 digs.  Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) recorded 22 digs and added a career-high four service aces. Senior defensive specialist Paige Pileski (Elyria) contributed 15 digs.
 
BW is back in action on Tuesday, November 4 when it will travel to Westerville for an OAC Tournament quarterfinal match against John Carroll University at 7 p.m.  The semi-finals and championship matches will be held on the campus of the highest remaining seed on Friday and Saturday, November 7 and 8.
