BW Volleyball Sweeps Franciscan In Straight Sets

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio –  The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team swept Franciscan University in straight sets in a non-conference match on the Kuzma Court.

The Yellow Jackets (6-4) defeated the Barons (4-4) by scores of 25-19, 25-20 and 26-24.

Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference right side hitter Alyana Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) led the BW offense with 11 kills.  Junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) and freshman outside hitter Lauryn Wright (Orrville) each added seven kills.

Senior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore setter Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense with 23 and eight assists respectively.

Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) led the Yellow Jacket defense with a career-high 24 digs.  Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) and senior defensive specialist Paige Pileski (Elyria) contributed 16 and 15 digs each.

BW is back in action when it travels to Greencastle, Indiana to compete in the DePauw University Tiger Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 12-13.   The Yellow Jackets plays Concordia (Ill.) University and DePauw on Friday at 4 and 8 p.m. then plays Defiance University and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) University on Saturday at 10 am and 12 pm.
