BW Volleyball Splits on Final Day of Tiger Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of competition at the Tiger Invitational hosted by DePauw University.  

The Yellow Jackets (8-6) opened day two of play with a five set loss to Defiance University by scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 24-26 and 11-15.  BW closed out the invitational with four set victory against Rose Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology by scores of 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 29-27.

Senior right side hitter Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) and junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) led the Yellow Jacket offensive attack with 26 kills apiece.  Miley, who was named to her second straight all-tournament team, had 14 kills against Defiance and 12 against Rose Hulman.  Chlad tallied 11 in match with Defiance and a team-high 15 against Rose Hulman.

Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) contributed 25 kills and freshman outside hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) had 10.
 
Senior Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense.  Primeau had 70 assists, including 36 against Rose Hulman.  Robinson tallied 44 assists with 24 coming against Rose Hulman.

Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the BW defense with 58 digs with 30 coming against Defiance.  Metz tallied 46 digs with a career-best 29 against Rose Hulman.  Senior defensive specialist Paige Pileski (Elyria) had 36 digs with 20 against Rose Hulman.  Primeau contributed 19 digs.
 
BW next travels to Wooster for a midweek non-conference match with the College of Wooster on Wednesday, September 17 at 7 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets then travel to Bluffton on Friday and Saturday, September 19 and 20 to compete in the annual Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Ohio Athletic Conference Challenge hosted buy Bluffton University.
