BW Volleyball Wins One on First Day of Tiger Invitational

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of competition at the Tiger Invitational hosted by DePauw University. 

The Yellow Jackets (7-5) opened the tournament with a three set sweep of Concordia University Chicago (3-6) by scores of 25-11, 25-12 and 25-16.   BW then fell to host and No. 22-nationally ranked DePauw (8-1) in its second match in straight sets by scores of 23-25, 12-25 and 11-25.

Junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) led the Yellow Jacket offensive attack with 19 kills, including 12 against Concordia Chicago.

Senior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore setter Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense.  Primeau had 32 assists, including 20 against Concordia Chicago. Robinson contributed 22 and had a team-high four service aces.

Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the Yellow Jacket defense as he recorded 39 digs with 25 of them against DePauw. Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) tallied 29 digs.

BW closes out the Tiger Invitational on Saturday, September 13 with a pair of matches against Defiance University and Rose-Hulman (Ind.) Institute of Technology.  The matches are at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
