BW Volleyball Defeats Oberlin in Home Opener

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team opened its home portion of its schedule with a five-set victory against Oberlin College in the Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets (2-3) defeated the Yeowomen (2-3) by scores of 25-21, 20-25, 17-25, 20-14 and 15-11.

The BW offense was led by senior right side hitter Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) with 11 kills. Junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) and freshman outside hitter Lauryn Wright (Orrville) each had eight kills. Junior middle hitter Kaitlin Burgess (Bentonville, Ark./Silver Lake Regional (Mass.) and freshman Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) contributed seven.

Senior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore setter Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense. Primeau had 22 assists and Robinson contributed 16.

Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the Yellow Jacket defense for the fifth straight match as she had 27 digs and also had a game-high six service aces. Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) had 13.
