BW Volleyball Wins Two on Day 1 of Marcia French Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team won a pair of matches on the first day of competition at the 16th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational in the Ursprung Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets (4-3) defeated the College of Wooster (0-6) and Westminster (Pa.) College (2-4) both in four set matches. BW defeated the Fighting Scots by scores 21-25, 25-20, 25-20 and 25-20 and then knocked off the Titans by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 20-25 and 30-28.

The BW offense was led by junior outside hitter Anna Miley (West Salem/Northwestern) with 27 kills, including 14 against Wooster. Senior right side hitter Alayna Chlad (Kent/Roosevelt) tallied 23, including 12 against Westminster.

Senior setter Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) and sophomore setter Sydney Robinson (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) set up the offense. Primeau had 56 assists, including a game-high 27 and 29, respectively. Robinson contributed 37, including 21 against the Titans.

Freshman outside hitter Melissa Metz (Medina/Our Lady of the Elms) led the Yellow Jacket defense with 48 digs, including a career-high 25 against Westminster. Sophomore libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the Jacket defense with 46 digs, including a game-high 29 against the Fighting Scots.

The Yellow Jackets conclude the two-day Marcia French Memorial Invitational on Saturday, September 6 when they host Hiram College at 10 a.m. and finish play against the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford at 2 p.m.
