Men's Indoor Track and Field Wins Dr. Willilam Taraschke Classic

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team won the Dr. William Taraschke Classic on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

The Yellow Jacket men placed first of three teams with 113 total points. Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College came in second with 106 points and Muskingum University placed third with 87 points. 

In the field, sophomore thrower Carson Kinney (Greenwich/South Central) won the weight throw with a career-best toss of 53'4.25" while senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) was the runner up with a 51'5.75" throw. In the shot put, sophomore thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) finished second with a toss of 48'6". Freshman jumper Alex Dempsey (Madison) placed third in the long jump with a 20'5" leap.

Freshman distance runner Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) won the 5,000-meter in a time of 15:50.11 while sophomore distance runner Nick Irwin (Westlake) came in second with a career-best time of 16:28.21. Freshmen distance runners Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey) and Matt Floyd (Hamilton/Cincinnati Christian) took second and third, respectively, in the 1-mile race, running 4:38.45 and 4:43.75, respectively. Floyd also won the 800-meter run in 2:05.07 while Hickmott came in fourth in 2:11.12. Reynoso was also the runner-up in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:45.71.

Sophomore hurdler Robby Becker (South Amherst/Firelands) won the 55-meter hurdle in a time of 8.62 seconds. Junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) won the 500-meter run in 1:10.96. Junior All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) won the 55-meter dash in 6.52 seconds while sophomore sprinter Deion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) came in second with a time of 6.62 seconds.

In relay action, the team of Leverette, Reynoso, Floyd and junior sprinter Noah Kendrick (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) won the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:39.48.

BW will hit the road for the first time this season to compete in the Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic, hosted by Hillsdale (Mich.) College Friday and Saturday, February 2-3, inside the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.
