Five Men's Track and Field Athletes Receive Academic All-OAC Honors

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio- Five Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field student-athletes were selected to the spring 2018 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

In order to be selected to the Academic All-OAC team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.

Sophomore All-OAC thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic), sophomore distance runner Isaac Wilson (Tylersburg, Pa/North Clarion), junior thrower Milton Woods (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young), junior distance runner Phil Spronz (Strongsville) and junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermilion) were named to the spring 2018 Academic All-OAC team.

Achladis, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is a middle childhood education major who carries a 3.79 grade point average. He is a Dean's List student and received the BW Academic Excellence Award for Men's Track & Field, which is given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA on the team. This season, he was the outdoor OAC champion in shot put with a career best mark of 53'1.5" and was the OAC runner-up in discus. During the indoor season, he earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors with a third place finish in shot put after registering a season-best and career-best mark of 52'5.25". The sophomore recorded his season-best and career-best weight throw during the 2018 indoor season with a 50';11" mark. He was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week on April 23 and earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Great Lakes Region honors in the indoor shot put.

Wilson, an exercise science and pre-physical therapy double major, garners his first Academic All-Conference selection. He carries a 3.78 GPA, while also being a Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar. This season, he registered a season-best and career-best times in the indoor 1,000-meter run with a mark of 2:51.98, the indoor 1-mile run with a mark of 4:39.63 and the indoor 3,000-meter run with a mark of 9:09.34.

Woods, who earns his third career Academic All-OAC accolade, is a marketing and finance double major who carries a 3.74 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletics Honor Society. The junior recorded an indoor weight throw season-best and career-best mark of 54'1.75" before missing the remainder of the season with an injury.

Spronz, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is a finance and marketing double major who carries a 3.57 GPA. He is a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. This indoor season, the junior recorded an 1-mile season-best time of 4:57.95 and a 3,000-meter run season-best time of 9:54.90.

Cole, who earns his first Academic All-OAC honor, is an English/English literature and communications double major who carries a 3.52 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Athletics Honor Society. The sprinter was tabbed as an United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic selection last season. During a career 2018 indoor season, Cole registered a season-best and career-best mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.18, a season-best and career-best mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.28, a season-best and career-best mark in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.54 and a season-best and career-best mark in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:10.96.
