ALLIANCE, Ohio – In its final meet before the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Baldwin Wallace University men and women competed at the unscored Raider Tune Up, hosted by the University of Mount Union inside the Peterson Fieldhouse.
On the men's side, junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) advanced to the 60-meter dash finals by running a season-best and career-best time of 7.25 seconds in the preliminaries. Senior sprinter Trypp Washington (Eatonville, Fla./Orlando First Academy) also advanced to the 60 finals with a season-best time of 7.27 seconds. In the 60-meter finals, Cole once again set a new season-best and career-best as he took third in a time of 7.18 seconds.
The Yellow Jacket distance runners had a successful day as freshmen Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) and Jose Reynoso (Painesville/Harvey) placed first and third, respectively, in the 1-mile run in career-best times of 4:29.17 and 4:35.43, respectively. Hickmott also took second in the 1,000-meter run in a career-best time of 2:42.60. Junior Spencer Mahon (North Royalton) ran a career-best 5,000-meter time of 16:14.48 to finish in second place and sophomore distance runner Nick Irwin (Westlake) ran a career-best 3,000-meter time of 9:09.59 to place fourth.
In the field, senior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) won the weight throw event for the third consecutive week and for the fourth time this season, hitting a mark of 57 feet, 8.5 inches on his first toss that carried him to the victory. Sophomore throwers Carson Kinney (Greenwich/South Central) and Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) took fourth and sixth, respectively with marks of 53'6.5" and 50'11". The 50'1" weight throw toss marked a career-best for Achladis, who also took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 48'11.75".
Freshmen sprinters/jumpers Alex Dempsey (Madison) and Peter Rosado (Haydenville/Logan) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump. Dempsey's longest leap went 21'2.5" while Rosado cleared a career-best mark of 20'4.25".
BW will be back in action on Friday, February 23, on the first day of the two-day OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Capital University inside the Capital Center.
