Men's Indoor Track and Field Finishes Seventh at OAC Championships

Junior All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team had two All-Ohio Athletic Conference performances that led to a seventh place finish at the two-day OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Capital University inside The Capital Center.

The BW men finished seventh of 10 teams with 52 points while nationally-ranked University of Mount Union was crowned the team champion with 187.5 points.

Earning his first career All-OAC honor was sophomore thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic). He took third place in the shot put with a career-best toss of 52 feet, 5.25 inches, which currently ranks as the 17th-longest throw in NCAA Division III.

Junior All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) had the best result on the track for the Yellow Jackets. Despite setting a school and Ohio Athletic Conference Championship record in the 200-meter dash preliminaries on Friday, he earned All-OAC honors by finishing second in the 200 finals in 22.74 seconds, just 0.03 seconds behind the top runner from Mount Union. Sophomore sprinter Deion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) placed sixth in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.26 seconds and junior sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermillion) had a career-best time in the 400-meter dash finals as he ran 51.54 seconds, earning four total points for the Yellow Jackets.

Freshman distance runner Josh Hickmott (Clay, N.Y./Liverpool) took fourth in the 3,000-meter and eighth in the 1-mile in 8:54.07 and 4:27.90, respectively, as both were career-best times for the freshman. Freshman Matt Floyd (Hamilton/Cincinnati Christian) ran 2:03.33 to place sixth in the 800-meter run for three points.

In the relays, Cole, Floyd, junior sprinter Noah Kendrick (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) and freshman sprinter Peter Rosado (Haydenville/Logan) placed sixth in the 4x400-meter relay in a season-best time of 3:33.03. In the 4x200-meter relay, Cole, senior sprinter Trypp Washington (Eatonville, Fla./Orlando First Academy), Kendrick and Leverette combined to earn two points with a seventh place finish in the 4x200-meter relay in 1:33.80.

Select members of the BW track and field teams will compete at a "Last Chance" meet on Saturday, March 3, to try and hit a qualifying mark for the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet.
