Two Track and Field Athletes to Compete at National Championships

BEREA, Ohio – Two Baldwin Wallace University outdoor track and field athletes will continue their season at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) will compete in both the shot put and the discus throw while sophomore All-OAC distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) will run in the 800-meter event.

Achladis qualifies for the Division III Championship meet after recording the 17th- and 19th-best marks in the country in shot put and discus, respectively. The sophomore hit his career-best and nationally-qualifying shot put mark at the 2018 OAC Championships when he threw 53 feet, 1.5 inches to win the event. Achladis' qualifying discus mark came at the Amy Adams Memorial Invitational when he tossed a career-best 162'1". This season, he earned two All-OAC and two United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Great Lakes Region honors in both the shot put and the discus.

Brennan enters the 800-meter event with the fifth-best time in Division III this season. The sophomore turned in a career-best and school-record time of 2:10.05 at the Harrison Dillard Twilight, besting her own previous school record time by almost two full seconds. Brennan also earned two All-OAC honors in the outdoor season as a member of the winning 4x800-meter relay squad and as the runner-up in the 1,500-meter run. She also earned her first career Outdoor USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honor this season.

Hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the Division III National Championships will run Thursday through Saturday, May 24-26, at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. Achladis will compete in the discus on Thursday, May 24, and the shot put on Friday, May 25, while Brennan will run in the 800 preliminaries on Friday with the finals being contested on Saturday, May 26.
