Men's Track and Field Team Participates in a Pair of Last Chance Meets

BEREA, Ohio – Select members of the Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field team competed at the Great Lakes Elite meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University and the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central (Ill.) College. Both meets are considered last chance meets for the BW individuals to improve upon or hit the qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III National Championships.

At the Great Lakes Elite meet, junior All-OAC thrower Cody Smith (Port Clinton) placed second in the shot put with a mark of 53' 2.75''. Smith was just .75 inches off his season-best mark of 53' 3.5'' which is the 16th best toss in the country.  Junior All-OAC thrower Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) finished third in the hammer throw with a toss of 173' 1''. In the discus, freshman thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) placed sixth with a mark of 142' 7'' and Dysert finished seventh with a toss of 140' 3''.

At the Gregory Invitational in the 100-meter prelims, freshman All-Ohio Athletic Conference sprinter Darion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) placed 18th with a time of 11.13 seconds, freshman All-OAC sprinter Deion Greer (Toledo/Central Catholic) finished 19th with a finish of 11.25 seconds and sophomore sprinter Brandon Cole (Vermilion) placed 20th with a career-best time of 11.26 seconds. Cole also was 22nd finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.79 seconds. Sophomore distance runner Brady Jeffers (South Amherst/Firelands) finished 25th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.74. Jeffers time was just .28 seconds off his career-best time. 

The Yellow Jackets that qualify will travel to Geneva for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union on Thursday, May 25 through Saturday, May 27 at the Spire Institute.
