Five Men's Track and Field Student-Athletes Land on All-Great Lakes Region Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Five Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field student-athletes were named to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Great Lakes Region team.

Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference vaulter Johnathon Spilker (Solon), junior All-OAC throwers Zak Dysert (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) and Cody Smith (Port Clinton), sophomore sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Adams) and freshman thrower Ted Achladis (Avon Lake/Elyria Catholic) each earned All-Great Lakes Region honors.

Spilker earns his first outdoor All-Great Lakes Region honor in the pole vault. This season, he earned All-OAC honors with a vault of 14 feet 11.5 inches at the OAC Championships and cleared a season-best mark of 15' 3.5''. In his career, Spilker is a combined four-time All-OAC honoree and was an All-Great Lakes Region selection for his performances in indoor.

Dysert, garners his first outdoor All-Great Lakes Region accolade, for his performances in the hammer throw. He had a career-best mark of 175' 4'' in the hammer at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships this season and earned All-OAC honors in the discus and hammer events.  In his career, Dysert is a two-time All-OAC honoree and was also an was an All-Great Lakes Region performer in indoors.

Smith earns his first outdoor All-Great Lakes Region honor for his strong marks in the shot put. This season, he recorded a season-best mark of 53' 3.5'' at the 48th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational to qualify him for the national meet this weekend and earned All-OAC honors in the shot put event. In his career, Smith is a two-time All-OAC honoree and earned his first outdoor accolade this season.

Leverette, who earns his second All-Great Lake Region accolade, after being named to the all-region squad as a freshman. This year he had a career-best finish of 21.67 seconds in the 200-meter dash at the Harrison Dillard Twilight, earned All-OAC honors with a second-place finish and was the anchor of the All-OAC 4x100-meter relay team. In just two years, Leverette qualified for the indoor nationals as a freshman and has earned All-OAC this year.

Achladis earns his first All-Great Lakes Region honor after a strong freshman season throwing the discus. He recorded a career-best mark of 155' 11'' in the discus at the 48th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational. Achladis was named the OAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Sparky Adams Invitational as he won discus, placed third in the hammer with a throw of 135' 7'' and finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 44' 10.25''. 

Smith closes out the 2017 outdoor season on Friday, May 26 as he competes in the shot put at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
