Men's Indoor Track and Field Ready for 2017 Season

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's track and field team and second-year Coordinator of Cross Country and Head Track and Field Coach Matt Cole  seek continued success in the 2017 indoor season.

Cole returns 16 letterwinners from last years' squad that finished sixth at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships and 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships a season ago. Cole and his coaching staff brought in nine newcomers that will look to contribute immediately.

"Our goal is to win an OAC Title in 2017," said Cole. "We return just one senior male student-athlete but have a lot of young talent behind him. We have the ability to score big points at the championship meet but we need our letterwinners and underclassmen to all do their part in order to be successful."

The returners are highlighted by sophomore All-American sprinter Jordan Leverette (Cleveland/John Hay) and senior All-OAC vaulter Johnathon Spilker (Solon). Leverette set a BW school-record and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a time of 21.96 seconds. Spilker finished third in the pole vault at the OAC Championships with a career-best vault of 14 feet and nine inches.

BW begins the indoor season on Saturday, January 21 when it travels to Ada for the OAC North Split hosted by Ohio Northern University inside the ONU Sports Center. Field events begin at 11 a.m. and running events start at 12 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets first home meet is the Dr. William Taraschke Classic on January 27 on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center at 4 p.m. BW also hosts the Mid-February Meet on February 10, the Greater Cleveland Championships on February 17 and the OAC Indoor Championships on February 25.
