Men's Indoor Track and Field Places Second at the Greater Cleveland Championships

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's indoor track and field team placed second at the Greater Cleveland Championships on the Harrison Dilliard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

With most of its athletes competing tomorrow BW finished second of five teams with 101 points. Case Western Reserve University won the meet with 288 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by, freshman jumper Kyle Aerni (Strongsville/St. Ignatius), freshman sprinter Jesse Kucewicz (Lancaster, N.Y./Central) and junior distance runner Brady Jeffers (South Amherst/Firelands). Aerni won the high jump with a career-best leap of 5'11.65'' in the jump off for first place. Kucewicz finished in second in the 200-meter dash and 500-meter dash. Kucewicz recorded career-best times of 24.11 seconds in the 200-meter and 1:12.25 in the 500-meter. Jeffers came in second in the mile with a career-best time of 4:29.69.

In other running events, junior sprinter Trypp Washington (Orlando, Fla./First Academy) finished second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.67 seconds and junior distance runner Dylan Tanner (Mentor) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a career-best time of 17:18.47. In the 3,000-meter run freshman distance runner Nick Irwin (Westlake) finished sixth with a time of 9:42.31 and sophomore distance runner Phil Spronz (Strongsville) placed seventh with a time of 9:48.94.

In the field events, senior pole vaulter Jonathon Spilker (Solon) was uncontested in the pole vault with a season-best leap of 15 feet 1.l inches. Junior thrower Travis Giardina (Wampum, Pa./Mohawk Area)  placed second in the shot put and sixth in the weight throw. He recorded a career-best throw of 45'2.5''in the shot and hit a mark of 46'1.5'' in the weight. Sophomore jumper Milton Woods (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) finished fifth in the long jump with a career-best leap of 15'6.83''.

BW is back in action on Saturday, February 18 when it travels to Alliance for the Raider Tune Up hosted by the University of Mount Union in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex starting at 12 p.m.
