Men’s Soccer Falls in Consolation Game at Penn State-Behrend

ERIE, Pennsylvania—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was defeated by host Penn State-Behrend, 2-0, in the consolation game at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament. The Lions dominated the young Yellow Jackets who sport 34 freshmen and sophomores among its 41-player roster.

In the first half, Penn State Behrend (1-1) outshot BW (0-2) by a 6-1 count, but neither team could beat the opposing goalkeeper.

BW's best scoring chance in the opening stanza came when freshman forward Danny Ruple (Berea/ Berea-Midpark) recieved a long pass from sophomore defender JT Taubeneck (Parma/ Normandy) but a Penn State Behrend defender and goalie forced his shot high.

In the second half, the Lions scored in the 59th minute when senior forward Anthony Crivelli sent a pass to junior midfielder Matt Dziadosz who chipped the ball over the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper. Penn State Behrend scored the final goal of the game when freshman forward Dakota Lange netted his first goal of 2016 at the 61:19 mark.

In goal, sophomore Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./ Kent Island) faced 10 Lion shots, including seven on-goal, and he allowed two goals and made five saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 7 when they travel to Cleveland to square off against cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University on DiSanto Field at 7:30 p.m.
