Ruple and Raney Lead Men’s Soccer to OAC Victory Over Mount Union

BEREA, Ohio— Freshman forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) and sophomore forward Kurt Raney (Mentor) led the Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team to a, 3-1, victory over the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

Ruple scored a career-high tying two goals and Raney tallied up a goal and an assist to lead BW (4-8-0, 1-1 OAC) to its first OAC victory of the year.

Sophomore midfielder Jake Clark scored the only goal for Mount Union (2-5-3, 0-2 OAC).

The Yellow Jackets struck first when Ruple netted his first goal of the game at the 36:23 mark. Purple Raider senior forward Kevin Blackley sent a cross to sophomore midfielder Jake Clark who buried the ball in the open net to tie the game up at 1-1 before halftime.

In the second half, BW regained the lead when sophomore midfielder Raney sent a cross in front of the net that Ruple headed in for his team-high seventh goal of the season in the 52nd minute.  Raney sealed teh victory for the Yellow Jackets as he scored his third goal of the season at the 61:19 mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made three saves and picked up his second career victory.

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 8 when it travels to Wilmington for an OAC game versus Wilmington College on Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium at 7 p.m.
