Men’s Soccer Drops OAC Contest at No. 4 Ohio Northern

ADA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was defeated by No. 4-nationally ranked Ohio Northern University, 7-1, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game inside Kerscher Stadium.

BW (6-12, 3-5 OAC) was led by sophomore forward Ryan Hassell (Southampton, BERMUDA/Western Reserve Academy) as he scored the only goal for the Yellow Jackets.  

Ohio Northern (16-0-3, 6-0-2 OAC) was led by senior forwards David Janusz and Matt Kindopf. Janusz scored a game-high three goals and Kindopf scored two goals and added an assist.  

Ohio Northern scored all four goals in the first half. Janusz scored the first two goals in the sixth and 15th minutes. Junior midfielder Chris Garbig and senior defender Grant Allbritten each were credited with assists on the first goal and Kinkopf assisted on Janusz's second goal. Kinkopf netted his two unassisted goals in the 25th and 40th minutes to give the Polar Bears a 4-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Ohio Northern extended its lead to 6-0 as Janusz score his third goal of the game off a cross from senior defender Brandon Homan in the 51st minute and two minutes later junior defender Grant Cayot netted his first goal of the season in the . The Yellow Jackets cut the Polar Bears lead to 6-1 when Hassell netted his fifth goal of the season off a cross from sophomore midfielder Kurt Raney (Mentor) at the 56:16 mark.  The Polar Bears scored the final goal of the game when senior midfielder Tommy Troy was assisted by junior defender Mac Tompkins at the 82:55 mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made a career-high 14 saves in the losing effort.

The Yellow Jackets wrap up the regular season on Friday, October 28 when they travel to Bexley to square off against Capital University in an OAC game inside Bernlohr Stadium at 7 p.m.

The 2016 OAC Tournament begins on Monday, October 31 as the third and fourth seeds will host the fifth and sixth seeds in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal games the top two seeds will host the winners of the quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 2.   The OAC Championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed after the semifinals on Saturday, November 5 at a time to be announced.
