Four First Half Goals Lift Men’s Soccer Past Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Defiance College, 5-0, in the first game of a men's and women's doublheader on Winsper-Knobel Field.

BW (2-7) was led by freshmen midfielder Timmy Jonas (Fairview Park/St. Edward) and forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Midpark). Jonas scored his first two goals of his collegiate career and Ruple scored a goal and added two assists for a game-high four points.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Defiance (2-5-1) 22-4 in the game.

In the first half the BW scored four goals. Ruple opened the scoring in the fifth minute, sophomore midfielder Kurt Raney (Mentor) added a goal at the 21:34 mark and Jonas scored two late goals to give BW a 4-0 lead at halftime. Ruple picked up assists on Raney's goal and Jonas' first goal.

The Yellow Jackets scored the only goal in the second half when junior Connor Napier (Canal Winchester/Pickerington) connected with junior midfielder Justin Herrin (Santee, Calif./West Hills) for his goal of the season at the 83:12 mark.

BW sophomore goalkeeper Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) and freshman goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield / Revere) combined for the victory. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 27 when they travel to Grove City, Pa. to square off against Grove City College on College field at 4 p.m.
