Men’s Lacrosse Wins Non-Conference Finale Versus Trine (Ind.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated Trine (Ind.) University, 7-4, on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium this afternoon.

Sophomore midfielder Jack Gerlack (Rocky River) and freshman midfielder Judson Huston (Delaware / Rutherford B. Hayes) led BW (8-1) with two goals each. Defensively, junior defender Josiah Greves (Milford) tallied up five caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Trine (3-3) was led by, senior goalkeeper Austin Helm made 10 saves and did not allow any goals in 30 minutes of work. Offensively, sophomore midfielder Nick Mayer scored two goals.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Thunder 2-1 in the first quarter. Freshman midfielder Huston beat the Trine goalkeeper at the 10:32 mark and freshman attack Ethan Napieralski (Lancaster, N.Y.) netted his 10th goal of the season with 6:54 left in the quarter.  

BW extended its lead to 4-1 when sophomore midfielder Gerlack scored his sixth goal of the season at the 10:31 mark in the second quarter. The Yellow Jackets outscored the Thunder 3-1 in the final 10 minutes to take a 7-2 lead at halftime.

After a scoreless third period, Trine cut the BW lead to 7-4 when senior attack Paul Carlquist beat the BW goalkeeper at the 8:54 mark, but the Yellow jackets held on for the victory.  

All-OAC sophomore goalkeeper Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Stevenson) made nine saves and improved to 9-1 this season.

The Yellow Jackets begin the OAC portion of their schedule when they travel to Westerville to square-off against Capital University inside Bernlohr Stadium.  The opening whistle is slated for 1 p.m
