Strong Defensive Second Half Leads Men’s Lacrosse Past St. Vincent (Pa.)

LATROBE, Pennsylvania – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated non-conference foe St. Vincent College, 13-5, on the Saint Vincent Turf Field this afternoon.

BW (7-1) was led by freshman defender Cole McClary (Perrysburg) who caused a career-high five turnovers, picked up seven ground balls, and scored his second goal of the season.  Offensively, sophomore attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River), junior Jack Gerlack (Rocky River), and freshman midfielder Judson Huston (Delaware / Rutherford B. Hayes) each scored two goals.

St. Vincent  (2-5) was led by sophomore midfielder Alex Mueser who tallied up a game-high three goals.

In the first quarter the Bearcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead when sophomore midfielder Alex Mueser beat the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper at the 6:10 mark. BW scored four unanswered goals to tie the game up at 4-4 when junior attack Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) netted his sixth goal of the year with five seconds remaining.

In the second stanza both teams scored one goal. Mueser scored his third goal of the game at the 6:57 mark for St. Vincent and McClary scored his second goal of the season at the 6:53 mark to make it 5-5 at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Bearcats 8-0 in the second half to come home to take home the 13-5 victory. Riemenshneider and Huston each scored two goals, Gerlack, freshman midfielder Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville North), freshman attack Ethan Napieralski (Lancaster, N.Y.) and sophomore attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North) also added goals.  

All-OAC sophomore goalkeeper Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) recorded a season-high 10 saves and improved to 8-1 this season.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action when they host Trine (Ind.) University for a non-conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 2 p.m.
