Unbeaten BW Has 14 Players Score in Men’s Lacrosse Win at Hanover (Ind.)

HANOVER, Indiana— The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team remained undefeated and had 14 different players each score a goal as the Yellow Jackets defeated Hanover College, 17-4, inside Alumni Stadium. BW has outscored its first four opponents this season by a 55-18 margin.

BW (4-0) was led by freshman midfielder Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville North) who scored two goals and added two assists for four points. In addition to Steinwachs, junior All-OAC midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin / Olentangy Liberty) and freshman attack Ethan Napieralski (Lancaster, N.Y.) each scored one goal and added two assists for three points.

Hanover (2-4) was led by junior attack Brock Warner who scored one goal and added three assists for four points.

In the first period, the Yellow Jackets opened up the scoring when freshman midfielder Judson Huston (Delaware / Rutherford B. Hayes) scored his third goal of the season via an assist from junior attack Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) at the 6:45 mark. BW added to their lead when Shane Rakich scored an unassisted goal at 5:16 to give the Yellow Jackets a 2-0 lead.
 
In the second period, BW continued to increase their lead as sophomore attacks Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y. / Iroquois) and Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North) each scored their sixth goals of the season to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-0 lead with the last coming at the 11:44 mark. The Panthers responded with a goal from sophomore attack Joseph DeLeo at the 5:21 mark to cut the BW lead down to 4-1. The Yellow Jackets answered back with two more goals, one from sophomore attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) and one from Steinwachs. Hanover scored the final goal of the period to cut the BW lead down to 6-2 going into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets outscored the Panthers 6-1 in the third period and built a 12-3 advantage when Napieralski scored his first of the game and six of the season via an assist from Steinwachs with 23 seconds left in the period.

In the fourth period, BW outscored Hanover 5-1 with the last coming from junior midfielder Jake Rakich (Dublin / Olentangy Liberty) on an assist from Napieralski at the 1:56 mark.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore All-OAC netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) faced 14 total shots, allowed three Hanover goals and made five saves as he improved to 4-0 this season and 16-3 in his career.

BW outshot Hanover, 40-23, including 29-14 on-goal. The Yellow Jackets also had more ground balls, 37-28, and caused 13 Panther turnovers.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 16 when they host their first home game of the season against traditional rival Oberlin College at 7:30 p.m on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium.
