Steinwachs Career Night Leads Men’s Lacrosse Past Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University freshman midfielder Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y. / Willamsville North) scored a career-high four goals and added two assists for a career-high six points to lead the men's lacrosse team to a 15-4 Ohio Athletic Conference win over Ohio Northern University on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium. 

Along with Steinwachs, BW (13-1, 5-0 OAC)  also had a strong performance from sophomore attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) who scored all four of his goals in the fourth quarter. Junior midfielder Alex Fioritto (Akron / Walsh Jesuit) set the school-record for face-off wins in a single season. Fioritto set the standard last season with 157 face-off wins and he has already won 170 this season.

Ohio Northern (8-5, 1-4 OAC) was led by freshman attack Anthony Pavone who scored a team-high three goals.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead when freshman midfielder Jonathan Seibert (Elma, N.Y. / Iroquois) netted his third career goal at the 14:08 mark. The Polar Bears answered with a 2-0 run to tie the game at 2-2 when Pavone scored his 12th goal of the season with 4:39 left in the quarter. BW regained the lead when Steinwachs beat the Ohio Northern goalkeeper with 27 seconds left in the first to make it 3-2.

In the second quarter the Yellow Jackets outscored the Polar Bears 3-1. Steinwachs, sophomore attack Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y. / Iroquois), and freshman attack Ethan Napieralski (Lewiscender / Olentangy) scored the three BW goals to give the Yellow Jackets a 6-3 at halftime.

In the third period BW outscored the Polar Bears 9-1 in the second half to hold on for the victory. Riemenschneider led the way with four goals, Steinwachs scored two, and junior Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional), freshman midfielder Judson Huston (Delaware / Hayes), and Andrews each added goals.

All-OAC sophomore goalkeeper Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) picked up his career-best 13th win of the season. 

BW is back in action when it travels to University Heights to face cross-town and OAC rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, April 27 on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium at 7 p.m.
