Men’s Lacrosse Wins Third Straight at Transylvania (Ky.)

LEXINGTON, Kentucky– The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated non-conference foe Transylvania (Ky.) University, 7-6, inside Pat Deacon Stadium.

Defensively BW (3-0) was led by freshman midfielder Cole McClary (Perrysburg) with a game-high four-caused turnovers and two ground balls.  Offensively, freshman attack Ethan Napieralski (Lancaster, N.Y.) scored a team-high two goals.

Transylvania  (1-2) was led by junior midfielder Zack Riggs with a game-high three goals and freshman midfielder Alex Cherry who added two goals.

In the first quarter Transylvania jumped out to an early 3-1 lead when junior midfielder Zack Riggs beat the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper at the 5:48 mark. BW scored two goals to make the score 3-3 when junior attack Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa. / Erie McDowell) found the back of the net with 1:57 left in the first. Neither team scored in the last 1:57.  

The Yellow Jackets scored the only goal of the second quarter when junior midfielder Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Pine-Richland) scored his first goal of the season at the 7:27 mark to give BW a 4-3 at halftime. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Pioneers 18-10 in the first half.

In the third period BW outscored Transylvania 2-1. Napieralski scored at the 7:14 mark and sophomore attack Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y. / Iroquois) with 1:54 left in the period to make the score 6-4.

Sophomore midfielder Alex Juhasz (Lancaster, N.Y.) scored a goal with 12:35 left in regulation to extend the Yellow Jackets to 7-4. The Pioneers answered scoring the last two goals of the game, but BW held on for the victory.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 12 when it travels to Hanover, Indiana to square off against Hanover (Ind.) College inside Alumni Stadium at 1 p.m.
