Men’s Lacrosse Late Push Falls Short Versus Otterbein in OAC Semifinal

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse was defeated 5-4 by Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic semifinal game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

Defensively BW (14-3) was led by, junior defender Josiah Greve (Milford) who tallied up a career-high seven caused turnovers and picked up six ground balls. Offensively, sophomore attack Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y. / Iroquois) scored one goal and added one assist for two points.

Otterbein (12-6) was led by junior goalkeeper James Gundling who made a game-high 17 saves. Offensively, junior attack Nick Tholt scored one goal and added one assist for two points.

In the first half, the Cardinals capped off a 4-0 run when senior attack Robbie Guiliano beat the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper with 8:22 left in the second quarter. Andrews scored the only BW goal in first half at the 5:37 mark to make it 4-1 at halftime.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets scored three more unanswered goals to tie the game up 4-4 when freshman midfielder Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville North) scored a wraparound goal with 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals struck back fast when freshman midfielder Logan Murphy scored the game winning goal with 32 seconds remaining.   

All-OAC sophomore goalkeeper Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) made saves in the losing effort. 

BW finishes the year with an overall record 14-3 record.  Otterbein advances to the OAC Tournament championship game where they will face the No. 1-seed John Carroll University on Saturday, May 7.
