Yellow Jacket Men’s Lacrosse Fourth Quarter Rally Extends School Record Best Start

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team remained undefeated as it rallied in the fourth period to defeat the University of Mount Union, 11-8, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game inside Mount Union Stadium.

BW (10-0, 2-0 OAC) won its school-record 10th straight game while Mount Union (3-8,0-3 OAC) lost its fourth straight contest.

The Yellow Jackets had eight different players score led by junior All-OAC attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine), sophomore  midfielder Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) and freshman attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) each with a game-high tying two goals.

The Purple Raiders were led by Chris Daley, Hogan Harris and Nick West each with a game-high tying two goals.

BW opened the scoring in the first when sophomore midfielder Shane Rakich  (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty)scored the unassisted goal with at the 10:28 mark. The Yellow Jackets added to their lead at 2-0 on an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/ Olentangy Orange) at 9:21.  The Purple Raiders closed out the period with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2.

The Yellow Jackets tied up the game at 11:59 in the the second period when Carson scored his 24 goal of the season on an assist by Shane Rakich. Mount Union regained the lead at 5-3 with goals from Richardson and Daley at the 8:09 and 6:04 marks, respectively.

BW opened the second half with Carson's second goal of the game on another assist from Shane Rakich to cut the lead to 5-4 with 13:26 remainining in the third period. Again, the Purple Raiders came back with a pair of goals to increase their lead to 7-4 at 9:23. The Yellow Jackets countered with a pair of goals from Librock at the 4:47 and the last with five seconds remaining.

In the fourth period, BW secured the victory as it scored five unanswered goals to take a 11-7 at the 1:34 mark on second goal of the stanza by Brock Riemenschneider. Mount Union scored the final goal of the game with 59 seconds left.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) faced 14 total shots, allowed eight goals and made eight saves to improve his season and career record to 10-0.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 15 when BW hosts OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m. This Saturday, April 18, BW is at Otterbein University for a key OAC contest at Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
