BW Men’s Lacrosse Cruises Past Alfred State (N.Y.) to Extend Best Ever Start

ALFRED, New York – Sophomore midfielder Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa./ McDowell) scored four goals as the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated  Alfred State (N.Y.) University, 22-1, at Pioneer Stadium.

In addition to Spicher for BW (6-0), sophomore midfielder Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Pine-Richland) and sophomore attacker James Wilhelm (Bay Village / St. Ignatius) each scored three goals. Overall, 13 Yellow Jackets had at least one goal.

Alfred (0-7) was led by senior attacker Michael Maranga who scored one goal.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai Stevenson) allowed just one goal and faced six Pioneer shots with five saves.

In the first period, BW scored one goal from Spicher and two goals from Wilhelm for its 3-1 lead.

In the second period, junior attacker Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine) scored two goals, sophmore midfielders Shane Rakich (Dublin/Olentangy Liberty), Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange), Briski and sophomore attacker Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) each had a goal to give the Yellow Jackets a 9-1 lead going into halftime.

BW scored eight more goals in the third quarter to take a commanding 17-1 lead on an unassisted goal by sophmore attacker Luke Happel (Pittsburgh, PA. / Hampton) at the 00:23 mark.

The Yellow Jackets went on to score five more goals in the fourth quarter with the last coming from freshman midfielder Clay Sparks (Deleware/Hayes) on an assist from Briski at the 1:53 mark.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 1 when they host non-league foe Saint Vincent (Pa.) Univesity at 7 p.m. BW opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Friday, April 3 when it hosts Wilmington College on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
