BW Men’s Lacrosse Beats LaRoche (Pa.), 15-3, in Berea

BEREA, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team bult an 8-0 first half lead and defeated visiting LaRoche (Pa.) College, 15-3, on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. This was the second of three straight home games this week for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets built leads of 5-0 after one quarter and 8-0 before LaRoche finally scored. That ended a 41:30 shutout stretch for BW dating back to Monday's 9-3 season-opening win versus Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College.  W&J scored its final goal at the 8:45 mark of the third period.

BW (2-0) was led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine) with four goals and one assist. In addition, sophomore midfielders Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty) and Tanner Roberts (Murraysville, Pa./ Franklin Regional) each had a goal and an assist, sophomore MF Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Pine-Richland) had two goals and sophomore attack James Wilhelm (Bay Village/ Cleveland/ St. Ignatius) had two assists.

Defensively for BW, a quartet of players, sophomore defenders Michael Dickey (Rocky River) and All-OAC player Josiah Greve (Loveland/ Milford) and junior midfielder Steve Wozniak (Strongsville/ Parma Padua Franciscan) and Shane Rakich each caused two turnovers. In goal, freshman Mike DiZonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) started in goal, faced seven shots, allowed just one goal and made four saves as he improved to 2-0. 

LaRoche (1-4) had three separate players each score one goal.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 11 when the Yellow Jackets host LaRoche (Pa.) College at 5:00 p.m. and then host Hanover (Ind.) College on Friday, March 13 at 2:00 p.m.
