BW Men’s LAX Team Loses at Otterbein; Ends All-Time Win Streak

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Jarrod Gilliam (Lewis Center/ Olentangy Orange) scored three goals but the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Otterbein University, 10-8, on Sparky Ballenger Field inside Memorial Stadium. The loss was BW's first this season and ended a school-record 11-game winning streak to start the campaign.

In addition to Gilliam for BW (11-1, 2-1 OAC), sophomore midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/ Olentangy Liberty) added three goals and three assists. In goal for the Yellow Jackets, freshman netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) faced 25  total shots, including 15 on-goal, allowed 10 goals and made five saves to drop to 11-1 this season and in his career.

Otterbein (10-4, 4-1 OAC) was led by Mike Sullivan and Robbie Guiliano who each scored three goals.

In the first period the Cardinals opened the scoring when Guiliano scored on an assist by Marcus Willis at the 9:32 mark. The Yellow Jackets responded with an unassisted goal by Shane Rakich at the 8:51 mark. Otterbein answered with two goals with the last coming at the 4:49 mark to build a 3-1 lead. BW got the final goal of the stanza when Gilliam scored off an asssist from sophomore attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) at the 1:05 mark to make it 3-2.

The Cardinals scored the only two goals of the second period to lead 5-2 at the intermission.

Otterbein started the third period on a 4-0 run to build its largest lead of the game at 9-2 with the last goal coming at the 7:55 mark. The Yellow Jackets answered back with a 4-0 of their own to cut the deficit to 9-6 with a pair of goals each from both Shane Rakich and Gilliam.

BW cut the lead to 9-8 opening the fourth period with goals from junior All-OAC attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine) and sophomore midfielder Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Pine-Richard) off assists from Shane Rakich with the last coming at 9:12. The Cardinals scored the final goal of the game and sealed their victory at the 6:31 mark to make it 10-8.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 22 when the Yellow Jackets travel to New Concord, Ohio to play OAC rival Muskingum University in McConagha Stadium at 7:30 p.m. The final regular season home game is next Saturday, April 25 versus Capital University on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium on Seniors' & Parents' Day at 1 p.m.

The 2015 OAC Tournamet begins on Wednesday, April 29 with semi-final games at the highest seed. The OAC Championship Fame is on Saturday, May 2.
