Librock’s Game-Winner in Double O.T. Leads BW Past Trine (Ind.)

ANGOLA, Indiana – Sophomore midfielder Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville East) scored the game winning goal 1:04 into double overtime to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team to a come-from-behind, 7-6 win at Trine (Ind.) University at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.

BW (5-0) continued its school-record best ever start. The Jackets were led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine) with a game-high five points on a game-best three goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa./ McDowell) had two goals and freshman midfielder Jack Gerlack (Rocky River) and Librock added one goal each.

Trine (2-4) was led by Paul Carlquist, Chris Ward and Gt Youpel with two goals apiece.

The Yellow Jackets scored the only two goals of the first period on goals Carson and sophomore SpicherCarson tallied an unassisted goal at the 10:44 mark and Spicher made it 2-0 with 31 seconds left off the assist from sophomore attack James Wilhelm (Bay Village/St. Ignatius).

In the second period, BW took a 3-0 lead when Carson scored his eighth goal of the season at the 14:21 mark. The Thunder scored their first goal of the game two minutes later to cut the lead down to 3-1.

Trine took its first lead of the game as it scored four unanswered goals in the third stanza to lead 5-3 heading to the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets responded with three unanswered goals to take a 6-5 lead on goals by SpicherGerlack and Carson.   The Thunder forced the game into overtime when they scored the game-tying goal with 2:03 remaining.

Both teams played to a scoreless first overtime before BW got the game-winner from Librock just 1:04 into the second overtime period.

In goal, freshman Yellow Jacket netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) faced 31 Thunder shots, including 17 on-goal.  Dizonno allowed five goals and made 11 saves for his fifth win of the season.

BW outshot Trine 44-31, including a 20-17 advantage in shots on goal.  The Thunder had a 38-35 lead in ground balls and both teams had 12 caused turnovers.  BW was led by sophomore All-OAC defender Josiah Greve (Loveland/ Milford) and sophomore defender Michael Dickey (Rocky River) with three caused turnovers apiece.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Sunday, March 29 when they travel to Alfred, New York to play Alfred State University at 1 p.m. The next home game is on Wednesday, April 1 when the team hosts Saint Vincent (Pa.) University at 7 p.m.
