BW Men’s LAX Team Loses to Capital, 9-5

BEREA, Ohio – Freshman attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) scored two goals, but the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University, 9-5, on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium on Senior & Parents' Day. With its win, the Crusders (13-2, 6-0 OAC) clinched the OAC regular season title. The Yellow Jackets (12-2, 4-2 OAC) finished third.

Capital was led by freshman attack Brennan O'Callaghan with five goals, including three in the second half.

In the first quarter, Capital gained a 1-0 lead at 12:35 but BW scored consecutive goals as freshman midfielder Jack Gerlack (Rocky River) tied it at 1-1 at 2:05 with his seventh goal of the season and sophomore MF Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./ Williamsville South) gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 advantage with his 11th of the season via the 11th assist of the campaign by sophomore MF Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa./ McDowell).

In the second period, Capital tied it at 2-2 with a goal at 10:21 and took a 3-2 lead at 7:44. BW came back to score a pair of goals by freshman attack Brock Riemenschneider at 6:15 and 2:33 to take a 4-3 lead. Sophomore MF Jarrod Gilliam (Olentangy/ Orange) had his fourth assst this season on Riemenschneider's second goal. BW led 4-3 at halftime.

In the third period, Capital scored all three goals to take a 6-4 advantage heading to the final period.

In the fourth period, the Crusaders scored three of the four goals. After BW sophomore MF Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./ Pine-Richland) scored at 14:31 via an assist by sophomore MF Shane Rakich (Olentangy/ Liberty) in a man-up situation to make it 6-5, Capital scored the final three goals to claim the win.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) who faced 24 total shots, including 17 on-goal, allowed nine goals and made eight saves to hall to 12-2 this season and in his career. He was replaced by senior Jake Harders (Rocky River/ Lakewood St. Edward) and faced one shot.

BW outshot Capital, 38-24 with each team having 17 shots on-goal. BW led in ground balls, 23-15 and in caused turnovers, 10-8. Capital had 13 of 16 clears and BW 12 of 20.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 29 when the Yellow Jackets open OAC Tournament action with a semi-final game at Otterbein University at 7 p.m. BW lost at Otterbein, 10-8, last Saturday. The Yellow Jackets began the season with a school-record 11-0 record.
