BW Men’s Lacrosse Stays Unbeaten with Second Straight Fourth Quarter Rally

BEREA, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Shane Rakich (Dublin/Olentangy Liberty) capped off the second straight fourth quarter rally and scored the game winning goal as the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team remained undefeated with a 12-10 come from behind Ohio Athletic Conference win against cross-town rival John Carroll University on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium.

BW (11-0, 3-0 OAC) remains atop the OAC standings and continues its school-record season best start. John Carroll (7-5, 1-2 OAC) snapped its two game winning streak.

The Yellow Jackets had eight different players score a goal led by freshman attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) with a game-high tying three goals. Junior All-OAC attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine) and sophomore midfielder Andrew Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each added two goals.

The Blue Streaks also had eight players score led by Declan O'Grady with a game-high tying three goals. Ryan Crater added two goals.

In the first quarter, the Blue Streaks opened the scoring when Andrew Rao scored the unassisted goal at the 9:20 mark. The Yellow Jackets responded with two goals by Carson and Spicher off assists from Brock and Luke Riemenschneider with the last goal coming at 5:12. John Carroll scored the final two goals of the stanza to lead 3-2.

The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 3-3 on the unassisted goal by Brock Riemenschneider at the 14:13 mark of the second period. After a Blue Streak score, BW got the final three goals of the first half from sophomore midfielder Brett Librock (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East), sophomore defender Brian Musial (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and Carson to lead 6-4 at the intermission.

In the third quarter, John Carroll scored two unanswered goals to tie the game at 6-6 at the 6:52 mark. The Yellow Jackets responded with goals from Carson and Brock Riemenschneider to take an 8-6 lead at 4:56. Each team scored another goal over the remainder of the stanza with BW leading 9-7. The Yellow Jackets got their goal from freshman midfielder Jack Gerlack (Rocky River) at the 1:40 mark.

The Blue Streaks scored four unanswered goals to open the final period and take an 11-9 lead at the 6:49 mark. BW answered back with goals from Brock Riemenschneider, Spicher and Rakich's game-winner at 1:07.

In goal for the Yellow Jackets, sophomore netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./ Adlai E. Stevenson) faced 36 total shots, allowed 11 goals and made nine saves to up his career record to 11-0.

BW is back in action this Saturday, April 18, when it travels to Westerville for a key OAC against Otterbein University at Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
