Tonight's Game --  BW opens its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule as they travel to University Heights to take on cross-town rival John Carroll University in the 28th edition of the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy Game. This also is the 56th overall meeting between the two rivals. 

Series Notes --  BW and John Carroll have met 55 times on the gridiron. The Blue Streaks lead the all-time series 26-25-4 and the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy series, 14-13.  The two teams have split the last 12 meetings with John Carroll winning the last three.  The home team has won 11 of the past 14 meetings. The series began in 1923 when the Blue Streaks defeated the Yellow Jackets, 19-13.  Three notable names who have taken part in this series, B-W graduate and College Football Hall of Famers Lee Tressel '48 and Jim Tressel '75 and JCU grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula. 

Last Meeting --  The last time BW and John Carroll met on September 26, 2015, the Blue Streaks defeated the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 17-14. John Carroll outgained BW 304-276 in total yards, but BW held a 200-161 advantage on the ground.

Scouting The Yellow Jackets
In week one of the season, BW scored 42 points on 190 passing yards, 134 rushing yards and 324 total yards. Defiance was held scoreless on 130 passing yards, 53 rushing yards and 183 total yards. 

Yellow Jacket Statistical Leaders

Offensively, BW senior quarterback Robbie Plagens (Rocky River) has completed 12 of 21 passes for 190 yards and one TD.  Junior running back Austin Smith (Broadview Heights/North Royalton) leads the rushing attack with 91 yards on 24 attempts with three TDs.  Senior wide receiver Mike Waggoner (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) tops the receiving corps with three receptions for 47 yards.  Sophomore wideout Da'Juan Glover (Elyria) also has three catches for 44 yards and one TD.

Defensively, junior linebacker Sean Nischwitz (Clinton/Green), junior linebacker Sam Groff (Waynesburg/Sand Valley) and junior defensive lineman Anton Ricahrdson (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech) all lead  the team with five tackles.  

Scouting The Blue Streaks
In week one of the season, John Carroll scored 14 points on 199 passing yards, 80 rushing yards and 279 total yards. Number six nationally-ranked University of Wisconsin-Osh Kosh scored 33 points on 287 passing yards, 182 rushing yards and 469 total yards. 

Blue Streak Statistical Leaders
Offensively, John Carroll junior Anthony Moeglin, brother of BW 2016 graduate Tyler Moeglin, has completed 27 of 47 passes for 199 yards and two TDs.  Sophomore running back Sam Kukura leads the ground attack with 77 yards on 19 carries.  Senior wide receiver Nico James tops the receiving corps with six catches for 52 yards and one TD.

Defensively, junior linebacker Mason McKenrick tops the team with 11 tackles.
