BEREA, Ohio -- Baldwin Wallace University senior safety and biology major Brock Hull (Youngstown/Boardman) has been selected as 2016-2017 Northeast Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete award-winner. 

In honor of his excellence both in the classroom, on the football field and as a team captain and team-leader, Hull will receive a post-graduate scholarship from the NFF and will be honored with a number of other high school, college and professional football standouts at the annual NFF Scholar-Athlete dinner on Match 7 at LaCentre Banquet Center in Westlake.

"Brock is extremely deserving of this honor," said Assistant Athletic Director John Snell, who was Hull's four-year football coach. "He made outstanding strides during his four years at BW and is a prime example of the student-athlete and team leader."

Hull, who carries a 3.2 grade point average and will attend chiropractic school in the fall, was a three-year starter and standout for the Yellow Jackets at strong safety. The two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection (2015 and 2016) and Academic All-OAC pick (2014) earned three varsity letters and made a valuable contribution to the BW defense. 

Hull ended his Yellow Jacket career with 120 tackles, including 67 solo stops, one quarterback sack and four tackles for lost yardage. He also had five pass interceptions, 17 total pass breakups, one forced fumble and one recovered fumble. The past two years, Hull was named as BW's Most Valuable Defensive Back award-winner. 

In addition to his athletics honors and leadership, Hull also volunteers his time with youth at Ohio Guidestone in Berea and through a Special Olympics event hosted at the Cleveland Browns facility. He also was one of four captains that led this year's effort in the 15th Annual BW Football Team Contributes School Supplies to Children in Need.

"Brock is an extremely intelligent, hard-working young man who leads by example," continued Snell. "He was always trying to find a way to get better and a way to help his team be better.  We are very proud of Brock and look forward to hearing many more good things from him in the future."
