ACADEMIC MAJOR:   History

BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION:  Austin Smith played his third season of football at Baldwin Wallace University in 2016-2017. The All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection started at running back and punted en route to his third varsity letter. Austin is one of the most versatile players in the OAC.

ALL-OAC:  As a junior in 2016-2017, Austin earned second-team All-OAC honors at RB.

PLAYER OF THE GAME & PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS:  As a junior in 2016-2017, Austin was named as the 39th Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic BW Player of the Game and subsequently earned the OAC Offensive Player of the Week award for his efforts in a 42-0 win versus Defiance College. He also was named as the 2016 Frank Roppolo Homecoming Player of the Game versus Otterbein University.

THROUGH-THE-YEARS:  As a freshman in 2014-2015, Austin played his first season of football and earned his first varsity letter. He began the season as the starting punter and a back up running back, but an injury sidelined him. He carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards, caught two passes for eight yards and averaged 33.7 yards in 14 punting attempts. BW finished 5-5 overall.

As a sophomore in 2015-2016, Austin played his second season of football and earned his second letter. He is a key member of the varsity who rotates at running back, punter and both kick and punt returner. Austin had his first career 100-yard game with 104 yards in a 56-20 victory versus Capital University on Oct. 31, 2015. He was third on the team with 390 rushing yards in 77 attempts (5.1-yard average per carry) with four touchdowns, caught 12 passes for 84 yards and one TD. Returned nine kickoffs for a 21.2-yard average and nine punts for a 6.7-yard average. He also punted 37 times for a 34.4-yard average with seven landing inside the opponent's 20-yard line. BW finished 7-3 overall.

As a junior in 2016-2017, Austin played his third season of football and earned his third letter. He was BW's starting running back and punter. He earned second-team All-OAC honors at RB. Austin led the team in rushing with 681 yards in 171 attempts with a team-high 14 TD's. He caught eight passes for 48 yards. Austin also punted 39 times for a 36.1-yard average with 17 fair catches and five punts landing inside the opposition's 20-yard line. Austin ran for a game-high 87 yards and scored a career-high three rushing TD's and was named as the 39th Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic BW Player of the Game. He subsequently earned the OAC Offensive Player of the Week award for his efforts in the 42-0 win versus Defiance College. Austin also was named as the 2016 Frank Roppolo Homecoming Player of the Game versus Otterbein University when he ran for 107 yards and three TD's and caught a pass for six yards. He ran for 106 yards in a career-high 28 attempts with three TD's and caught three passes for 32 yards at Capital on Oct. 29. Austin ran for 112 yards in 19 attempts with two TD's at Heidelberg on Nov. 5 (third straight 100-yard game). BW finished 3-7 overall

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Austin Smith grew up in Broadview Heights, Ohio and graduated from North Royalton High School.

Austin played football for four years and earned three varsity letters. He also ran track for four years and lettered four times.

In football, Austin was a first-team All-Northeast Ohio Conference (River Division) and second-team All-District selection. He also was the North Royalton H.S. Most Valuable Offensive Back and the team MVP.

In track, Austin was both All-NOC and a Regional qualifier.
