UNIVERSITY CIRCLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team comitted two costly errors that led to six unearned runs in the fifth inning for host Case Western Reserve University as the Spartans defeated the Yellow Jackets, 6-3, at Nobby's Ballpark. The Yellow Jackets play a doubleheader tomorrow at Allegheny (Pa.) College.

BW (7-10) scored single runs in each of the top of the second and fifth innings to build a 2-0 lead before the Spartans got their six runs in the bottom of the fifth.  The Yellow Jackets added a run in the eighth for the final score.

On the mound, senior right-hander Connor Murphy (Westford, Mass./ Northeast) started and pitched the first four and two-third innings and took the loss to fall to 0-3. Murphy allowed five hits and six runs (none earned), struck out two and walked two. He was relieved in the fateful fifth inning by senior Brandon Cichocki (Walled Lake, Mich./ Central) who got the final out of the fifth. Sophomore Evan Lovick (Mentor) entered the game in the sixth and allowed just two hits and no runs and struck out three.

At the plate, BW outhit the Spartanss, 9-7. Sophomore third baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire), senior four-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference shortstop Mark Zimmerman (Akron/ Green) and senior centerfielder John Taylor (Stow/ Hudson) each had two hits. Badia was 2-for-5, Zimmerman was 2-for-5 with a double and a run batted-in (RBI) and Taylor was 2-for-4 with a run scored. In addition, sophomore third baseman Cole Nieto (Brunswick/ Cleveland St. Ignatius) hit his team-leading third home run.

After travelling to Allegheny tomorrow, BW opens its 2016 home schedule when it faces rival Otterbein University in an OAC twinbill at Fisher Field on Saturday, April 2. The first game begins at 1 p.m.

Fans are reminded that the official dedication ceremony for Fisher Field will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 12 noon and prior to BW's Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader versus Capital University. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
