Baseball Team Loses at Wooster

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost at No.21-ranked The College of Wooster, 7-2, in a single, nine-inning non-conference game at Art Murray Field. The Yellow Jackets (11-16) ended a three-game winning streak.

The Fighting Scots (14-5) gained a 3-0 lead in the second inning before BW scored once each in the fourth and sixth to close the Wooster lead to 3-2 The Scot lad grew to 7-2 with a four-run seventh and the Yellow Jackets never countered.

At the plate, junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman Cole Nieto (Brunswick/ ClevelandSt. Ignatius) was 2-for-4 with ahome run, his team-leading fifth and second in two days, and senior All-OAC first baseman Hunter Handel (Akron/ Green) was 2-for-4 with a double.

On the mound, freshman right-hander Brandon Lekan (Strongsville) started and pitched the first six innings and took the loss to fall to 1-4 this season. He allowed just three base hits and three runs (all earned), struck out four and walked four Wooster batters. He was followed by seniors Matt Wittels (Lyndhurst/ Brush) and Brandon Cichocki (Walled Lake, Mich./ Central) and then freshman Danny Cody (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) in the fateful seventh. Cody also tossed the eighth. He had one of his best outings of the season, pitching one and one-third scoreless innings.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 16 when it hosts Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in an OAC doubleheader at Fisher Field. The first game starts at 1 p.m.

Fans are reminded that the official dedication ceremony for Fisher Field will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 12 noon and prior to BW's Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader versus Capital University. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
